I would argue that this ideology comes from the fundamentalist Muslims that practice those things, not from the religion itself.

I dunno, it’s like blaming Biblical prophecy for the beginning of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. I can still hear Bush’s administration saying “We’ve GOT to invade Iraq” or something like that.

Saddam was a bad guy but what the US military did to Iraqi civilians wasn’t much better. Which is kinda sad, because I can say I’m a little of both (an American, and a Muslim) and I’d expect my country to have done it better.
